911 Dispatch Upgrades in Houston County

The 911 Dispatch Upgrades project will fund upgrades made to the 911 center in Houston County, ensuring we are best prepared to serve our citizens at the highest possible level.

911 infrastructure has traditionally been analog, only accessible through phone calls to 911. However, Next Generation 911 is a new internet protocol (IP) system that digitally transforms the way community members of Houston County can communicate with emergency responders. Next Generation 911 will allow people to reach out to dispatchers beyond a traditional phone call. Those in emergencies can send voice messages, text messages, photos, videos, and other types of digital media through the network to first responders, along with phone calls.

Next Generation 911 will be rolled out in the next five to ten years. To be ready, we will prep our centers so that we can take advantage of the technology once it is available.

We expect the 911 Dispatch project to have all committed SPLOST funds available by Q1 of 2030.
